First Big Car Trip and Learning to Play

This week, Ea has started to show some interest in her toys. We have been laying her on her playmat when she's alert and in a good mood (which doesn't happen every day haha) and she really loves to stare at and kick her legs at the toys we have dangling for her. She has even started to smile and babble a little bit. Her colic has been acting up less and less, but when it does it's still quite the challenge to stay on top of it. We discovered on Wednesday that the sound of running water (the loud bathtub works best) works as a great substitute for "shh"ing when we are trying to calm her down, and that has made that process slightly less tiring. I just finished reading the book The Happiest Baby on the Block, which gave me a lot of insight into colic and ways to remedy it. I feel like it has helped SO much; I am going to lend it to anyone that is expecting a child. Ever. We are already almost halfway to that glorious 3 month mark, where colic is almost always gone. Week 6 (this upcoming week) is supposedly the peak for colic, so if we can get through just one more week it should start getting easier and eaiser each week.

We visited the suburbs this weekend for mommy's best friend Katie's wedding shower and it was Eva's first experience with a long car trip. The trip there went really well -- we only had to stop once for a new diaper and to nurse. The trip back was a little more stressful. We were all definitely ready to be home when we pulled into the driveway.

Here are some shots from the week....

  1. Oh boy, my brother had colic when he was a baby. I was only 5 years old at the time, and I still remember the endless crying! LOL! Hope the little gal gets better soon : )
